The home buying process can be a happy and exciting experience if you prepare yourself before beginning a home search. You can minimize stress if you take the following steps. 

Determine what you can afford. Examine your financial position, total income, monthly expenses, and the amount you have available for a down payment. 

Check your credit score and your credit report. Make sure all of the information is correct, and if not, have corrections made. 

Get preapproved for a home mortgage. Knowing an exact amount that a lender will approve for you to borrow gives you confidence and an advantage when negotiating. 

Consider hiring a buyer's agent to represent you. A realtor working on your behalf can help you find a home, guide you through the process, and help you negotiate with the seller. 

Lastly, be flexible. Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect house. Decide what's most important to you and your family and be reasonable and willing to compromise on some of your less important requirements.
